Frequently asked questions

WHAT IS BIBLICAL COUNSELING?
Biblical Counseling is Christ-centered, church-based, comprehensive, compassionate, and culturally-informed one-another ministry that depends upon the Holy Spirit to relate God’s Word to suffering and sin by speaking and living God’s truth in love to equip people to love God and one another (Matthew 22:35-40).
WHAT IS YOUR COUNSELING PHILOSOPHY?
We believe that Bible is the final authority for all matters of life and godliness (2 Pt. 1:3-11, 2 Tim. 3:16, Heb. 4:12). It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter. We believe, therefore, that Scripture is the guide for what we are to believe and how we are to live. The Bible sets the agenda for the questions we ask and the answers we seek.
THE COUNSELING TEAM
Our counseling team is made up of pastors, elders, and membership from our congregation who have been certificated through the Association of Biblical Counselors. You can find out more about the training and certification process by going to christiancounseling.com.

This certification is not licensed through the state.
LENGTH OF SESSIONS AND COUNSELING
Individual sessions are typically scheduled for one hour. They may run a few minutes more or less depending on the counselor and the conversation.

Counselors and counselees typically meet anywhere from 1-12 weeks depending on the nature of the case.
COST
We are currently offering all biblical counseling free of charge. You may be asked, however, to purchase materials that will be used for counseling (books, journals, articles).
WAITING LIST
We cannot guarantee that you will immediately be seen after you have requested counseling. Once you have completed all required paperwork, you will be contacted by our next available counselor.
COUNSELING EXPECTATIONS AND HOMEWORK
LOCAL CHURCH INVOLVEMENT
HOW ARE COUNSELORS ASSIGNED?
At the end of each session you will likely be assigned homework by your counselor to completed throughout the week. Although it will be approached with grace, failure to consistently complete homework will result in discontinuing sessions.
There is an expectation that you will attend Sunday morning services at a local church for the duration that you are meeting for counseling. We want you to get connected into the life of the church.

Biblical counseling is a short-term and intensive aspect of Christian discipleship. Attending Sunday morning gatherings, connecting in a small group, and serving on ministry teams are the long term means of discipleship that God has given us to maintain health in our relationship with God, ourselves, and others.
After your paperwork has been reviewed by our Director of Counseling, you will be assigned to the next available counselor who works with your particular need.
WHAT IS YOUR VIEW OF MEDICATION?
We view the use of psychotropic medication as a matter of individual Christian wisdom and conviction. You may be encouraged to visit a doctor for a physical check-up, but you will not receive medical advice or a diagnosis from any of our counselors.
DO YOU COUNSEL CHILDREN?
We do not currently offer counseling for anyone under the age of 13. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

We do not offer childcare for sessions. Please make plans for childcare prior to meeting. Children are not allowed in counseling sessions.
WHO DO I CONTACT IF I HAVE MORE QUESTIONS?
You can call up to the church office if you have any questions at (325) 692-2360. You can also email any questions to counseling@broadview.church.
