Weekly Update | June 21st

Hello Church Family,

In today’s weekly update I wanted you to hear from Bonnie Barlow. She is going to talk about all of the great things that happened this last week during VBS. This Sunday we will be diving back into the book of Acts with a new series entitled “You Can Too.” I hope you’ll join us and invite a friend. Here’s Bonnie!

The VBS theme for this year was called Maker Fun Factory, Created by God Built a Purpose. Vacation bible school is fun way to teach kids about God’s love for everyone. This event is one way we can welcome kids and their families from the community into our church.

It takes the church as a whole to create that environment. There are lots of different ways people have an opportunity to serve in VBS. There are leaders that lead the rotations, rotating leaders, kitchen crew that feeds the vounteers and their children each night, people donating money or food, people helping decorate, people that enter in registration and people just praying. Whatever their participation is has a significance for VBS.

This year during VBS there was a prayer room called The War Room. A group of people stayed on campus in a room praying over the VBS. They prayed over the leaders, the students and their families, the church, the community, etc. This was such an added detail that made a huge difference in the environment of VBS.

There is something special in the power of prayer and welcoming God into our mist to have complete control over the events we do as a whole to bring glory to Him. God’s presence was felt and moved in an amazing way during the week of VBS.

We averaged 90-100 volunteers throughout the week. There was an average of 202 children that participated within the preschool and children’s department for the week. Each night the children heard stories from the Bible and how to apply them in their daily lives.

  • Day 1 talked about how “God made you.”
  • Day 2 was “God is for you.”
  • Day 3 “God is always with you.”
  • Day 4 “God will always love you.”
  • Day 5 was “God made you for a reason.”

One of the nights during the Bible story the gospel is presented to the children in 1
st thru 5th grade. This year during that time there were 15 decisions made for Christ. This is what makes the hard work behind putting on VBS so worth it.

Our goal is to plant the seed of God’s Word, show God’s love and allow him to do all the work. We are his vessels here on earth to bring light into the darkness and glorify his name.

Thank you for being an Acts 1:8 church!

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
