VBS, Mission Trips & Upcoming Changes

Hello Church Family,

Summer time has officially arrived! The kids get out of school this week. College kids are already enjoying their summer break. The summer time calendar at Broadview is about to kick-off. Let me update you on some of the things that are starting, stopping and changing.

VBS

The first big thing happening this summer is our Vacation Bible School. We have TWO VBS work nights scheduled. You can come up and volunteer any time you have available. The work nights are tonight, May 30th from 6:00-8:00pm. The next work night is next Wednesday, June 6th, from 6:00-8:00pm.

If you haven’t yet registered your kids for VBS then you can do so here. You can also sign up as a volunteer if you’re interested in serving. If you’d like to help out with VBS but can’t serve during the evenings then consider helping out by signing up to provide a meal.

We need people to sign up to bring certain dishes on certain evenings. We also need others to consider giving financially to offset the cost of providing meals to the VBS volunteers and their children. You can sign up to bring a dish by filling out this form. You can give towards the VBS meals online or using the Broadview smart-phone app.

Here’s the schedule & suggested dishes for VBS.

Music / Youth Transition

The next big thing happening this June is a transition in our music and youth departments. As you know by now, Daniel and Michelle will be moving to Boulder, Colorado to help their friend Drake Elkins plant a life giving church in that city. The name of the church is City Church Boulder. If this is news to you, please watch their testimony video to learn more.

Daniel’s last day to lead worship will be June 10th. They will move out of their home and to Boulder sometime the following week. If you were planning to help support the Hessler’s financially you can still do so. You can join the prayer team as well to stay up to date with what’s going on!

We will host a going away and appreciation reception on Sunday, June 3rd from 2:00 – 4:00pm.

You can come and go as you please. It’d be a great time for you to come and encourage the Hessler family on this ministry transition and let them know that their Broadview church family will be praying for them as they transition.

As I stated in my last monthly update, upon Daniel’s transition we are going to try a different approach to our staffing structure in the areas of our youth and music departments. This approach is being done “in pencil” so that we can get a feel as to whether or not it will be a good long-term solution moving forward.

Starting June 17th we will have two part-time folks serving in interim ministry positions.
Griffen Jones will serve as an interim part-time traditional music minister.
Roger Jackson will serve as an interim part-time youth minister.

Taylor Miller will take the youth to youth camp from June 12th – 16th and then he will transition from doing the youth ministry to leading the 9:40 & 11:00 contemporary services. Taylor will remain full-time and oversee the Music/Media Ministry, College/Young Adult Ministry and Adult Small Group Ministry.

Summer Schedule

Broadview Student Ministry

Griffen and Roger will serve in these interim positions until the end of the year. During the interim period we will appoint two different search teams to search for a long-term solution for both positions. Griffen and Roger are able to put their names in for consideration to serve long term but are only being brought on right now as interim staff. The search teams will recommend candidates for consideration at the end of the search process.

This will allow the search teams the necessary time to find a list of qualified candidates and evaluate who would be best to serve long-term. It will also allow the church the necessary time to see if this staffing structure will be something we can sustain long term. Please be praying for Griffen and Roger as they serve the Lord during this season and for Broadview overall as we discern the Lord’s leadership for what’s next.

Flip-Flop Summer Salad Supper Fellowship

The S.A.L.T. Women’s Ministry at Broadview will be hosting at Flip-Flop Summer Salad Supper Fellowship on Thursday, June 21st from 6:00 – 8:00pm in the Broadview Education Building. Anna-Kate Mathis will be brining the devotional.

You can bring your favorite entree salad, tossed salad or dessert salad to share. Childcare will be provided with a reservation. All ladies are invited. Be sure and bring your favorite pair of flip flops (the “Glass Slippers” of the South).

Family Mission Trip

The last big thing coming up this June is the Family Mission Trip. The trip will be held from June 23rd – 30th. It’s not too late to sign up for the trip. It cost $250 per family. They will travel to the Rio Grand Valley and host a Vacation Bible School in partnership with Iglesia Baptista. There will also be a team that engages in construction for a youth/children’s camp for low income families.

A Final Word

That’s all for now. For those of you wondering where the May financial report information is at, we haven’t yet closed out the Month of May so that information isn’t yet available. I needed to get this email out ASAP because of the time-sensitive nature of the VBS meals. That financial information will be included in our next update.

We are going into the summer months with a surplus of over $20,000 the required 2018 General Fund Budget. Thank you so much for your generosity! This will help us weather the typical summer giving slump. If you know you’ll be out during the summer because of vacations or other types of travel, consider giving through our online platform or through the Broadview App.

Audra and I along with Blaise and Attie-Jo plan on enjoying some vacation time in California this year! We plan on leaving the last week of June. We’re going with Audra’s mom and dad to visit her brother and sister-in-law. We also have a little vacation time for just our family right before we leave for California. I appreciate Broadview letting me take some extended time off to rejuvenate and invest quality time with my wife and children.

The last week of July, I’ll be joining Jeff Hinton and Cody Hopper as we travel to Lesotho for our final 2018 Lesotho Mission Trip! Remember, you can support any of the upcoming mission trips individually or make a general donation the 2018 World Missions Offering. If you want to give to a particular participant, click on “more details” when looking at the individual trips.

Because of the busyness of the month of June, we have cancelled our Wednesday night programming for the entire month. Tonight is the last night for our Adult Bible Study and Prayer Meeting until July 11th. Please pray for the many things we have going on this summer and the new changes that are soon approaching for our church.

If there’s any way I can pray for you, please let me know!

Blessings,
Pastor Wes
