Hey Church Family,
April is here! We celebrated Easter this past Sunday and it was our largest Easter since 2013! We had a total attendance of 970 people! It was an incredible day. I’m not going to lie. I didn’t feel like coming into the office on Monday. Most of the ministerial staff looked like zombies. But, it was totally worth it!
We also took up a social offering on Easter to help support the full time chaplaincy position at the Abilene Police Department. While not all the money has come in yet, over $8,000 has already been contributed. This special offering will be a great way to show our city that we don’t just exist to serve our own needs but also help contribute to the needs of our city as well. If you’re still wanting to give to the Easter Offering you can do so here.
I wanted to use this month’s update to let you know about a few upcoming events.
Uninvited (Women’s Ministry)
There’s a new ladies Bible study kicking off tonight entitled “Uninvited.” Casee Harwell will be leading the class through the study by Lysa Terkerust. Here’s the information you need to know.
It looks like it’s going to be a really great study. If you know somebody who might be interested be sure to let them know. Childcare is provided and the group starts at 6:45.
Conquer (Men’s Ministry)
A new men’s study will also be kicking off this month. On April 17th our Men’s Ministry will host a five week series entitled “Conquer.” The cooking team will provide a full breakfast so be sure to bring your appetite. The content of this series will cover an issue that many in the church have ignored. There’s an elephant in the room and it’s time to talk about the elephant. I hope you’ll join us.
You can registerfor the series here. You don’t have to register. You can just show up at 6:30am on Tuesday, April 17th. I’m looking forward to joining with other men in the church to tackle this issue together. I think it’ll help ALL men to help one another in this arena of life.
Group Connect
This Sunday we have Group Connect. This is something new we’ve never tried before. Essentially, it’s just a laid back lunch with our Adult Small Group Leaders that anyone can attend if they’re looking for a new small group. Taylor Miller has taken charge of overseeing our adult small groups and he recorded a video to talk about the event. Check it out.
Hessler Family Town Hall
As many of you may also know by now, Daniel and Michelle Hessler are feeling called by God to help plant a church in Boulder, CO. The name of the church is called City Church Boulder. While it’s really difficult to think about them leaving Broadview, it’s a great opportunity for us to help launch them into their next season of ministry. It also fits right in line with our desire to become a congregations that sends.
Many of you probably have a lot of questions about this move and what’s next for Broadview. Daniel and Michelle will still be sticking around Broadview at least until the end of May. During these next few months they will be trying to raise support for their work in Boulder. If you’re interested in helping them in this next season of ministry you’ll have an opportunity to do so.
Daniel and Michelle will be answering questions and sharing the vision behind what they believe God is calling them to do in Boulder this coming April 18th at 6:30pm in the Sanctuary. This is an important night for them to share their heart as well as answer any questions you may have. While you’ll learn then about all the ways you can personally support them during this next season of ministry, a giving page has already been set up on Broadview website for those who want to give now.
The details of what’s to come next for Broadview are still unclear. Our pastoral team, deacons and other leadership teams will do everything we can to seek God’s will in this matter. Thankfully, we don’t have to make any rush decisions overnight and can prayerfully consider what’s wise moving forward. I hope you’ll keep the Hessler’s, Broadview and City Church Boulder in your prayers throughout this whole process.
As I shared a few weeks ago, transitions like this can often be used by our enemy to sow division and discord in the congregation. However, given the nature of this transition, I think it’s also a tremendous opportunity for us to celebrate God’s call and move forward in our own mission to be a sending church.
The rest of the upcoming events you can read about under “upcoming events” in the email version of this post. No matter who you are, I hope you’ll consider serving in our upcoming Vacation Bible School. It’s the biggest outreach event of the year and always one of our best weeks of ministry at Broadview. It’s hard to believe that summer is so close but it’ll be here before we know it.
Thanks again for being such a great church. Audra and I consider ourselves blessed to call Broadview our family and our home. I hope you have a great rest of your week. If there’s anyway I can pray for you, please let me know!
If you haven’t yet, check out our new internal website entitled Broadview.Life.We built it to help you stay up to date with everything going on. It’s a one stop shop for upcoming events, registrations, Sunday morning worship and much more more.
With you in the journey,
Pastor Wes
